Is it easy to be gay at Davidson? With several gay members in all kinds of student organizations, one might say that gay is the new black - highly in fashion and widely accepted. As of late though, I would tend to disagree.
A recent episode involving the verbal harassment of a gay individual gained minimal attention from the administration and was barely mentioned amongst the student body.

We were asking for it? The United States often was unkind to the people of the Middle East, and therefore it is responsible for the terrorists' attack on Sept. 11, 2001? Well, as his column title states, "That's What Zaid Said." Zaid Jilani, a self-important international affairs major, charged the United States with this in his Monday column in The Red & Black.

After the selection of Gov. Sarah Palin as the VP hopeful for the Republicans, I commented that, regardless of how this turned out, her name on the ticket would make things exciting.

A couple weeks ago, I sent an e-mail to the head of the Humanities department to express how I felt about the recent lectures. I asked if all lectures would end with some sort of anti-Republican message.
I said that I understood that this is a college where most students and teachers are Democrats, but should each lecture end with biased political commentary?
The previous two lectures I had attended were concluded with George Bush, Sen.

Interesting article, [Jonathan McFadden]. I give you props for having the courage to make your observation public. But at the same time, you really need to have a wake-up call.
I understand that as a freshman, you apparently have not had the opportunity to experience much of the "real" world.

Time and time again we hear about the greedy bankers and predatory lenders who focused their efforts on the poor, defenseless homeowners who just wanted a home. What we don't hear enough about is how the blame for this financial mess is spread among bankers, politicians and risk-taking homeowners alike.

Yes, it's Fall Break, that two-day break that my parents can't seem to understand. Being a senior, I want to share some advice for all of our students here at Carolina with Fall Break dos and don'ts.

In Greek life, "Circle the Fat" is the least of some pledges' concerns. Hazing, supposedly intended to measure a pledge's loyalty to their fraternity or sorority, can result in anything from mild humiliation to death.
One fraternity at the University of Illinois allegedly required one pledge class to raise a puppy for a week and ultimately kill it.

July 23 and July 24, 2008, CNN aired its groundbreaking documentary "Black in America." Anchor Soledad O'Brien spent more than a year gathering information for this series, which looked at the struggles and successes of being black in America; for the black woman and family, as well as for the black man.

The prevalence of politically active celebrities coupled with the growing popularity of blogs begs the question as to why newspapers feel the need to drop their objectivity in an attempt to sway the public.
A lot of people say this election will change history, but newspapers continue the long-held tradition of endorsing a candidate, which leads to the question of whether they can be trusted as an objective source for news.

Oh wow! A gay couple! Look! It was a pretty girl with shiny hair and carefully applied makeup, as "normal" as they come, commenting for all to hear as she watched two young women in a restaurant downtown. She wrinkled her face in disgust and pointed at them.
